New Features

Coming Soon in Magnet REVIEW 4.0: New Device Dashboard, Customizable Artifact Views, Chat Thread Previews, and More

We’re very excited to share a preview of some of the great new features coming soon in Magnet REVIEW 4.0 — helping you accelerate digital evidence review by enabling secure agency-wide collaboration from anywhere, anytime.

As part of the Magnet Digital Investigation Suite, REVIEW was specifically designed to address the needs of non-technical users, helping them to quickly and easily find the evidence they need in their digital investigations. Delivering a truly simplified digital evidence review experience is critical today, as the increasing volumes and complexity of data involved in the typical digital investigation challenges law enforcement agencies’ ability to keep pace.

With the upcoming version of REVIEW, we’re introducing several exciting new features to further streamline the evidence review process, including a new Device Dashboard that conveniently summarizes valuable device information and data, new ways to sort and present artifacts so users can get to the evidence they need faster and easier, and chat thread previews in REVIEW reports so that investigators and other stakeholders can see the full story of their evidence.

Coming Soon in REVIEW 4.0: Device Dashboard

The ability to quickly view important information and details from the source devices included in your investigations, like smartphones and computers, can greatly facilitate the review process.

With REVIEW 4.0, when users click on any of the source devices listed in their case, they’ll be presented with a new Device Dashboard that provides a useful at-a-glance summary of key device data, conveniently arranged in category cards, including:

  • Top Identifiers: This card includes top identifiers surfaced from the device, like names, phone numbers, email addresses, along with the number of occurrences.
  • Most Recent Communications: This card provides a powerful summary of the recent chats, calls, emails, etc. made from the device, including both inbound and outbound.
  • Device Information: This includes device details like make and model, IMEI, phone number, and more.

In addition to the above details, users can also see information regarding the device extraction itself, including the date created, source tool used, and SW version, under the under Manage Evidence Source option included in the dashboard.

Coming Soon in REVIEW 4.0: Primary/Secondary Artifact Classification

When providing digital evidence to reviewers, certain artifacts will be more important to highlight than others. REVIEW 4.0’s new primary/secondary artifact classification feature provides a powerful new way for you to customize how key artifacts are presented to users so they can quickly get to the evidence items that matter.

Primary/secondary artifact classification allows you to configure which artifacts are presented first within the Evidence Dashboard, reducing the amount of data initially being presented for less technical viewers. Admins can assign the order that these primary artifacts are presented in, with the most important columns appearing right at the front, making it fast and easy for users to see key details.

Artifacts denoted as secondary will be initially hidden from view but can be easily expanded and viewed by the user if desired, and they remain discoverable via searches or filters.

This experience also carries over to the Artifact Details view, where users will see the primary details first, and in the same order presented within the Evidence Dashboard table for a consistent experience across these views.

Coming Soon in REVIEW 4.0: Multi-Artifact View

A great complementary feature to primary/secondary artifact classification is REVIEW 4.0’s new multi-artifact view. You can now view all artifacts in a category in a single view – multiple chat messages from different chat apps, for example – saving users valuable time when reviewing artifacts across multiple devices and apps.

When multiple artifacts are being displayed in the category view, users can now see a quick summary of the highest priority artifact details, which can be customized according to your users’ preference.

Coming Soon in REVIEW 4.0: Chat Thread Preview Visualization in Reports

REVIEW 4.0 will also bring a valuable new reporting enhancement: Chat Thread Previews! With this feature, users reading REVIEW reports will now be able to see a preview of chat threads with items that have been tagged via an embedded HTML link in the report.

This chat thread preview provides a native viewing experience, including the ability to view any embedded media within the chat messages like pictures and videos.
