Our Story

While working as a member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service (Ontario, Canada) in 2007, Jad Saliba received some crushing news - he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer that forced him to step away from his role as a law enforcement officer, husband and father to undergo radiation and chemotherapy treatment. After a difficult year, Saliba found himself in remission and returned to work as a digital forensics examiner, responsible for recovering Internet evidence from computers to support the force's investigations. In a sense he had returned to his tech geek roots, having completed a college degree in programming and working for a software company prior to becoming a police officer.

When Saliba began his new role as digital forensic examiner, web and online usage was exploding. Finding important evidence on a suspect's hard drive was like searching for a needle in a haystack. Facing this new challenge, Saliba set out to find a solution that would help him, and others, recover relevant data faster.

Magnet Forensics Launches

Finding a solution that helped find more evidence on hard drives was more difficult than Saliba thought. The solution? Do it himself. Saliba decided to put his programming skills to use after-hours and built his very own data recovery software called Internet Evidence Finder (IEF). IEF allowed Saliba to combine his technical and policing skills, and in 2011 he left the police service to work on IEF full-time. It was then that the company, Magnet Forensics, (formerly known as JADsoftware) was born. IEF quickly grew in popularity because of its easy to navigate interface and its ability to parse and carve hard drives for artifact data, such as social media apps, messaging apps, and web history.

Magnet AXIOM

In 2016 Magnet Forensics launched Magnet AXIOM, the evolution of IEF. AXIOM is a complete digital investigations platform that brings together digital evidence acquisition, examination and reporting for both smartphones and computers into one solution. Saliba realized that the forensics community needed a platform that would use technology to automate and simplify some of the complex and tedious tasks, while also freeing up time for deeper analysis by examiners and investigators.

Used By The Top Law Enforcement, Government, Military And Corporate Organizations

Magnet Forensics has built a reputation for excellence, reliability, and trustworthiness. Its technology solutions have been used in a wide variety of cases and investigations from child exploitation to terrorism and intellectual property by departments and agencies all over the world. The company dedicates more than 35,000 hours each year to R&D to help its customers stay one step ahead of those who would do harm.

Focus on Innovation

With this focus on innovation and keeping the user experience simple and relevant, Saliba, who is now CTO of Magnet Forensics and his partner, CEO Adam Belsher, are proud of the company’s growth into a global leader in digital forensics solutions with offices in Canada, the U.S., Europe and Asia. The Magnet Forensics’ team has made a difference by creating evidence acquisition, recovery software tools, and a complete platform, that help ensure criminals are brought to justice, and innocent people are not falsely accused. When the pressure is on to deliver results for an investigation, Magnet Forensics uncovers all the evidence quickly – and makes sense of it. We find more digital artifacts faster, so investigators can spend less time searching and more time building cases. Because nothing should stand in the way of the truth.
