Director, Forensic Consultants – Marketing

Trey Amick is a forensics investigator with a background in both law enforcement and corporate investigations. As a detective with the Rock Hill Police Department in South Carolina, Trey was sworn as a Special Deputy United States Marshal and supported the US Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force. Previously, he served in roles in both Patrol and Professional Standards.

Most recently, as a corporate investigator, Trey managed the Enterprise Cyber Education and Awareness Team at Capital One, where he also served as part of the Cyber Technical Investigations Team. Trey is currently the Director of the Forensic Consultants at Magnet Forensics, where he assists in the development of Magnet Axiom and Axiom Cyber and provides skilled support to customers with his combined knowledge of Magnet’s tools and digital forensics.


Forensic Consultant

Chad Gish works with Magnet Forensics, a leading digital forensics company. He is part of the Technical Marketing Staff and works as a Forensic Consultant. Chad had a wonderful 26-year career with the Metro Nashville Police Department, dedicating 24 years as a detective working on major, high-profile cases.


Technical Forensic Specialist

Brandon Epstein is an experienced digital forensic examiner, spending most of his law enforcement career as a police detective and digital forensic examiner. Brandon holds a Master of Science degree in Recording Arts – Emphasis Media Forensics as well as numerous digital forensic certifications. He is the chair of the Scientific Working Group on Digital Evidence and is a member of the IAI’s Forensic Video Certification board, IACP Cybercrime and Digital Evidence committee, NIST/OSAC Video/Imaging Technology and Analysis Subcommittee, and is a fellow the American Academy of Forensic Science. Brandon is also an adjunct professor in the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Forensic Science Program and regularly provides digital forensic instruction to local, state, and federal law enforcement officers nationwide and internationally. Prior to joining Magnet Forensics, Brandon was a co-founder of Medex Forensics, where he helped digital forensic examiners and investigators determine the trustworthiness of digital evidence, establish when a video has been edited or modified, and recognize original camera video from synthetically produced media.


Senior Technical Forensics Specialist

Christopher Vance is a Senior Technical Forensics Specialist at Magnet Forensics. Christopher has been an instructor and researcher with several major forensics companies for years, primarily instructing individuals and conducting research in mobile device, macOS, and Cloud forensics. Christopher previously worked as an analyst with the West Virginia State Police’s Digital Forensics Unit where he was also tasked to the Internet Crimes Against Children task force. Christopher hails from Huntington, WV where he received a degree in Digital Forensics from Marshall University.


Senior Security Forensics Specialist

Doug Metz is a Senior Security Forensics Specialist with Magnet Forensics. Doug joined Magnet in 2021, bringing over 13 years of experience as an Incident Response Manager. Doug currently serves as Vice President for the Delaware Valley Philadelphia chapter of the HTCIA. Doug blogs at BakerStreetForensics.com and hosts the “Cyber Unpacked” webcast, exploring topics in Digital Forensics and Incident Response for the Enterprise.


Forensic Consultant

Jeff Rutherford was a Supervisory Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation with experience in Organized Crime, Crimes Against Children, Counter Terrorism and Cyber related investigations. He joined the FBI in 2003 and achieved specialized certification as a Technically Trained Agent, an FBI Certified Digital Forensic Examiner and holds certifications from IACIS (CFCE) and SANS (GCFA). He also led the FBI Dallas Technical Operations Squad responsible for the capture, processing, and preservation of electronic surveillance evidence.

While assigned to the North Texas Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory, Jeff conducted digital forensic examinations for various agencies (State, Local, and Federal) across North Texas and he’s testified in both State and Federal courts.

After retiring from the FBI in 2024, Jeff joined Magnet Forensics as a Forensic Consultant.


Forensic Consultant

Steve Gemperle was a Senior Special Agent with the United States Secret Service who specializes in cyber-crime. Steve joined the US Secret Service in 1999 and served with the US Secret Service until retiring in 2021. For the last decade of his career with the Secret Service he focused on computer crimes and served as Lab Director for the US Secret Service Southwest Regional Computer Forensic Lab. Steve has completed over 1900 forensic exams and 150 network intrusion investigations while working for the Secret Service, and has been recognized as one of the US Secret Service’s top network intrusion investigators. After retirement, Steve joined Magnet Forensics as a Forensic Consultant.
