I was at a conference a couple of weeks ago, and one thing became impossible to ignore. Five or six presentations, different speakers, different research, all orbiting the same core problem: deepfakes, synthetic media, and altered images.

Videos, images, and audio recordings often provide the most persuasive evidence in criminal cases. Their impact, however, depends on authenticity, integrity, and lawful acquisition. What was once an amusing novelty has become a systemic threat to global business. Deepfakes, synthetic media, and AI-generated material have infiltrated private enterprises, and their presence is now being felt across financial services, insurance, retail, human resources, ecommerce, and more.
As crime evolves and digital evidence grows in volume and complexity, law enforcement must adapt quickly to meet rising public expectations for transparency, accountability, and results. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a future concept; it is an essential tool already reshaping how law enforcement conducts investigations.
