As of 2017, successful completion of the IEF Examinations course will allow you to apply for the MCFE – IEF certification.

How to Achieve the Magnet Certified Forensics Examiner (MCFE) – IEF

Step 1: Preparation and Prerequisites

The Magnet IEF Examinations course is the only prerequisite for the MCFE. If you have not completed that class, please click here for more information and to register.

Step 2: Application submission

Once the Magnet IEF Examinations course is completed, start the certification process by filling out the form to the right.

Step 3: Confirmation

The Magnet Forensics team will confirm that you meet the prerequisites and have taken the Magnet IEF Examinations course.

Step 4: Exam preparation and downloads

You will receive an email with login info and test instructions, which include a link to download and process a case. You MUST download and build the case in preparation BEFORE you initiate the certification exam.

Step 5: Taking the test

Log in to test.com and begin the test. The test will consist of 45 questions that are a mix of theory and practical questions. There is an 80-minute time limit and a passing score is 80% or higher.

Step 6: MCFE certification and renewal

If you pass the test, you will receive certification notice and your MCFE certificate via email. MCFE certification is good for two (2) years.

Step 6b: Retaking the test

If you fail the test, you are invited to retake it as soon as you feel ready. If you fail a second time, you must wait 60 days before re-applying to take the test one more time.
